Dianthus plumarius 'Mrs Sinkins' is a very famous dianthus is named after the wife of John Sinkins, who was the superintendent of Slough Workhouse.

It was originally to be named after Queen Victoria, but John insisted on naming it after his wife.

The flower is still included in the Slough coat of arms.

She was first produced commercially by Charles Turner's Royal Nursery in 1868.

It has a highly clove scented white fragrant double flower with a silver sprawling foliage. 

Dianthus love to be planted in free draining alkaline soils in a nice sunny spot.
